How to Roll Back a WordPress Page After a Bad Sync

By Jon B.· Updated

Short answer

To roll back one WordPress page, restore that page rather than the whole site. Post revisions can bring back content but not always custom fields. A page snapshot restores the page's data. Use a full backup only as a last resort, because it also removes newer orders and comments.

You pushed a page to production and it looks wrong. The instinct is to reach for a backup, but restoring a whole site to fix one page can do more damage than the bad page did.

The right fix depends on what changed. Here are the three ways back, from smallest to largest.

Can WordPress revisions undo a sync?

Sometimes. WordPress keeps revisions of post content, so you can open the page, view its revisions, and restore an earlier one. That works well for text changes.

Revisions are built around the content itself. If the sync also changed custom fields, SEO fields, or a page builder layout, those may not come back with a revision. Check the live page carefully afterward.

What does a page snapshot restore?

A snapshot is a saved copy of a page's data taken before a sync. EZ Page Sync captures one on the receiving site before every sync, and keeps up to 5 per post.

If a sync fails partway, the page is restored automatically. That is on by default on every tier. Premium adds the Rollback Manager, which restores any stored snapshot in one click, even days later. On the Free tier, snapshots expire after 30 days.

Rolling back restores post data only. Media files are never deleted, so images added by the sync stay in your library.

  1. 1Open EZ Page Sync on the production site and go to the Rollback Manager tab.
  2. 2Select the page you want to restore.
  3. 3Pick the snapshot from before the sync.
  4. 4Restore it, then check the live page.

When should you restore a full backup?

Only when more than a page went wrong. A full restore replaces everything with an older copy, so orders, comments, and form entries made since then disappear. Export anything you need to keep first.

The Sync Log tab in wp-admin: a filterable audit log where each sync event shows its page, status, destination details, and duration in milliseconds, with CSV export.
A full audit trail of every sync — filter by status, event, or date, and export to CSV.

Guide FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I roll back on the Free tier?

Failed syncs roll back automatically on every tier. The Rollback Manager, which restores a snapshot by hand, needs Premium.

How many snapshots are kept?

Up to 5 per post. They expire after 30 days on the Free tier, and Premium extends retention.

Does rollback delete images added by the sync?

No. Rolling back restores post data only and never deletes media files.
